چکیده

Natural systems are governed by adaptive and responsive behavior to survive, which is mostly driven by conformational changes and catalytic actions of proteins. These perfectly defined polyamide structures take on defined folded structures to get very sophisticated response behavior. Inspired by such systems, polymer scientists have developed a wide range of synthetic responsive polymer materials that respond to a wide range of stimuli (pH, temperature, ionic strength, molecules, etc.) with various changes in the polymer materials, including phase transition, color change, and shape transformation. Thermoresponsive synthetic polymers that undergo a temperature induced solubility phase transition in aqueous solutions have received significant interest as mild temperature changes provide an easy way to trigger the solubility. Furthermore, such systems are highly appealing for development of drug delivery systems if the transition temperature is close to body temperature, allowing to prepare formulations that are soluble at room temperature and gel upon injection,

On the biodegradability of polyethylene glycol, polypeptoids and poly(2-oxazoline)s.

Despite being the gold standard of hydrophilic biomaterials and well known sensitivity of polyethylene glycol (PEG) against oxidative degradation, very little information on the decomposition of PEG under biological oxidative stress can be found in the literature. Poly(2-oxazoline)s (POx) and polypeptoids (POI), two pseudo-polypeptides, have attracted some attention for the use as biomaterials ...

Thermoresponsive Interplay of Water Insoluble Poly(2-alkyl-2-oxazoline)s Composition and Supramolecular Host–Guest Interactions

A series of water insoluble poly[(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline)-ran-(2-nonyl-2-oxazoline)] amphiphilic copolymers was synthesized and their solubility properties in the presence of different supramolecular host molecules were investigated. The resulting polymer-cavitand assemblies exhibited a thermoresponsive behavior that could be modulated by variation of the copolymer composition and length. Interest...

Bioinspired Poly(2-oxazoline)s

Poly(2-oxazoline)s are regarded as pseudopeptides, thus bioinspired polymers, due to their structural relationship to polypeptides. Materials and solution properties can be tuned by varying the side-chain (hydrophilic-hydrophobic, chiral, bioorganic, etc.), opening the way to advanced stimulus-responsive materials and complex colloidal structures. The bioinspired ―smart‖ solution and aggregatio...

Poly(2-oxazoline)s: a polymer class with numerous potential applications.

The living cationic ring-opening polymerization of 2-oxazolines has been studied in great detail since its discovery in 1966. The versatility of this living polymerization method allows copolymerization of a variety of 2-oxazoline monomers to give a range of tunable polymer properties that enable, for example, hydrophilic, hydrophobic, fluorophilic, as well as hard and soft materials to be obta...

Probing carbonyl-water hydrogen-bond interactions in thin polyoxazoline brushes.

Temperature-responsive oxazoline-based polymer brushes have gained increased attention as biocompatible surfaces. In aqueous environment, they can be tuned between hydrophilic and hydrophobic behavior triggered by a temperature stimulus. This transition is connected with changes in molecule-solvent interactions and results in a switching of the brushes between swollen and collapsed states. This...
